Dear Loker School Community,
I hope that you are staying warm during this incredibly cold weather pattern! As we have now entered the second half of the school year, we will share your child(ren)'s Report Cards (Grades 1-5) and Developmental Checklists (Kindergarten) on Thursday of this week. You will receive a paper copy and have access to it online through Power School.
It was wonderful seeing our scholar leaders perform at last Thursday's School Meeting. The public speaking in our PRIDE classroom shares and the strong majority of our 5th grade leading us through our Loker School Song in Spanish and English always inspires me! On that note, I wanted to share Team PRIDE's performance from our latest School Meeting on being safe in the snow and at recess at the link below.
In addition, this week's School Meeting Read Aloud is from the book, Martin's Big Words: The Life of Martin Luther King, Jr., by Doreen Rappaport. It can be found at the link below.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Brian

Planning for the 2026 Backpack Auction has begun! The auction is the second (of two) fundraising events that directly supports all of Wayland’s elementary schools. The auction (to take place in March) has historically had a huge response across families and the Wayland community and we hope it lives up to its reputation in 2026! Our goal is to identify thoughtful and exciting bidding items to make this year’s auction a success!
That’s where YOU come in!
Please consider donating any of the following to the auction:
- Your services or hobby or skill (sports or music lessons, hiking guide, photography, baking or cooking lessons, etc.)
- Donations from a local business, virtual experiences, online subscriptions, outdoor activities, or even time in a vacation home
- Cook & Deliver a meal for a family
- New toys, apparel or items for the home
- Gift cards to your favorite restaurants and businesses

Did you know: The funding we raise for the PTO this year determines our 2026-27 budget and directly impacts what we’re able to do for our students next year--think of the back-to-school picnic, incredible field trips, and all of the other wonderful enrichment opportunities that the PTO enables through your generous support.
~Thank you from the Backpack Auction Team

Information & Registration
When: 7:00–8:30 pm on February 10, March 10, April 14, and May 12, 2026
Where: First Parish, 225 Boston Post Road, Wayland (in person only)
Who: Parents and other adults who live, work, worship, or send children to school in Wayland—whether you speak up often, tend to hold back, or fall somewhere in between
Registration: Required. Attendance at all four sessions is encouraged but not required. REGISTER here.
About the series:
This four-session workshop focuses on building practical skills for real-life and online conversations—especially when perspectives differ or conversations feel uncomfortable. Participants will practice empathetic listening, curiosity, and self-awareness while learning from one another in a supportive setting. Together, the group will select the discussion topics for each session.
By the end of the series, participants will leave with concrete tools to engage across differences without losing connection, helping to strengthen relationships and our broader Wayland community.
This program is sponsored by Wayland Public Schools and the Wayland Human Rights, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (HRDEIC), and is made possible through the generous support of the Lydia Maria Child Fund of First Parish in Wayland.
Have a great week! Let's hope that things warm up sometime soon!
Best,
Brian
